One of the best things that Texas is known for is the numerous wind projects that extend over its bare land. Sweetwater, Texas is no stranger to some of these projects. The Trent Mesa Wind Turbines is more commonly known as the Trent Wind Farm or the Trent Mesa Wind Project. It is a 150-megawatt wind power station situated in West Texas, specifically in the heart of both Abilene and Sweetwater. The project is a massive farm, boasting of 100 GE wind turbines, each capable of 1.5 megawatts.

 

According to its history, the project was developed by the American Electric Power, which currently still owns the farm. Apart from them, Luminant Energy has placed a long-term agreement with the prior company and has purchased electricity produced by the turbines. Finally, GE Wind Energy provides some maintenance and operations functions in upkeeping the wind turbines.

 

Having started its commercial operations in 2001, the Trent Wind Farm quickly became the fourth largest wind power plant operating in the whole country. Its array of wind turbines make for a very picturesque view, especially if you are visiting the city for the very first time.

 

The Trent Mesa Wind Turbines are located in the middle of Abilene and Sweetwater, West Texas. A visit to see these wind turbines in action will not take more than 40 miles or a 40-minute drive. Drive down to this destination, especially if you've never seen wind turbines in action.
