The small town of Sweetwater, Texas is home of the Municipal Auditorium; a landmark in the city where some of the world's best talents have performed. Having opened in 1927, the historic auditorium seats a total of 800 individuals. During the time it was built, the primary means of travel were railroads. Because of its massive space, the auditorium was a chosen performance venue by some of the era's best artists. Not to mention, the city of Sweetwater has already been used as a major railroad center since 1881 for its midway location between the Pacific coast and the Atlantic Seaboard.

   

Some of the artists that have played in the auditorium include the Ziegfeld Follies, Fred and Adele Astaire, Sir Harry Lauder, and John Philip Sousa. The Municipal Auditorium was also chosen as the venue for Broadway productions including The Bohemian Girl, Seventh Heaven, The Rain Maker, Carmen, and Rita Rita. Other noteworthy artists that have performed in the auditorium include Roy Acuff, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Eddie Arnold. Most especially, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley played on stage twice in 1955.
